Cloud Systems Engineer

Overview

The Cloud Systems Engineer (SE) will be responsible for supporting the Systems Engineering and Test (SET) team. Will be performing significant prototyping of cloud capabilities to replace or extend on-premises capabilities; these cloud activities are being migrated to operational capabilities. Systems engineering support is necessary to ensure requirements alignment and to generate documentation, such as interface control documents or service descriptions, as appropriate for each capability. The Cloud SE will work with internal and external Subject Matter Experts (SME) to coordinate the relevant details. This includes following documented Configuration Management (CM) processes to ensure cloud documentation is current and reflective of the deployed system. The Cloud SE will also work with SMEs as necessary to define and document new capabilities from the requirements phase through deployment into operations. The Cloud SE will also support engineering analysis and oversight on general systems engineering tasks including supporting requirements management, system testing, design and architecture, decision analysis and formal Government reviews. This role may require occasional travel to contractor’s facility in Melbourne, FL, as well as operational sites such at Wallops, VA, and Fairmont, WV.

 

Specific Skills

  • Experience in cloud-based technologies and capabilities

  • Knowledge of cloud-based systems and differences from traditional on-premises solutions

  • Team-focused

  • Ability to listen and help teammates

  • Understanding of the Systems Development Lifecycle and creation of necessary SE artifacts

  • Familiarity with a range of SE tasks including requirements analysis, system integration and test, configuration management, risk management, decision analysis, and security engineering.

  • Ability to create artifacts documenting decisions and designs

 

Experience

  • 8+ years’ experience in systems engineering

  • BS/MS in a technical field or equivalent experience

 

Desired Strengths

  • Experience with NOAA/NASA systems engineering approaches

  • Experience with satellite programs and systems

  • Working on a large federal project

  • Knowledge of and hands on experience with cloud-based technologies
